“One Tribe, One Child" Wampum Pledge
We are asking each tribe to pledge their yearly wampum at the Fall Outing to help send kids to summer camp that would otherwise not be able to afford the opportunity. This year, it will cost $150.00 to send a child to camp.
When you pledge your wampum at the Fall Outing, each member of the tribe will receive a WeBuildPeople patch. WeBuildPeople dollars will also help dads and kids in the Y-Guides and Princesses Program. As an added bonus, those tribes that raise $500.00 or more are eligible to enter a prize drawing for some amazing gifts. These prizes include free Spring Outing for an entire tribe, free Winter Inning tickets for an entire tribe, and the ability to choose your cabin at the Spring Outing.
Please talk with your tribe before the Fall Outing to decide how much wampum to donate to help send kids to camp. If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer for the WeBuildPeople Campaign please contact Matt Strickland at 919.582.2266 or matt.strickland@ymcatriangle.org. We look forward to collecting all of your Wampum Pledge Cards at the Fall Outings in October and November. Thank you again for your time and consideration. A WBP NOTE FROM NATION ELDER ROLLING ROCK:
I encourage everyone to give what they can to WeBuildPeople. During the current economic downtown, there are more kids out there than ever that will need the aid of WeBuildPeople this year. Our kids are fortunate enough to have Dads that love and care for their well-being day in and day out. For a lot of the children helped by WBP, the love and care they get from YMCA is all they sometimes get on a regular basis. Let's all count our personal blessings and at the same time bless a child with your support...
How How!
Here are a few tips to help raise those WBP dollars in your tribe:
Go ahead and have your tribe commit to whatever dollar amount you feel most comfortable with. Many tribes will shoot for the $500 pledge and simply split it evenly between each Big Brave, with each Dad writing a check for the full amount. And instead of each Guide or Princess handing in a real US dollar, they hand over their WeBuildPeople wampum. Prior to the start of each meeting the wampum bearer doles out the WBP wampum for the kids to put back into the wampum bag. The kids still get the thrill of putting something in the bag and Dad does not have to worry about singles for the meetings. Feel free to print and cut out these WBP Moose bucks for your tribal meetings.

Besides the regular wampum, my tribe Dads also give "Happy Bucks" at each meeting, based on a fundraising feature at many civic clubs. While the kids are telling what they did for wampum, Dads have the opportunity to throw in a dollar or two to boast about something special their child has accomplished since the last meeting. Samples include: good grades, scoring a goal at soccer, a random act of kindness, singing at church, etc. - anything that a parent can be proud of and wants to share with everyone. This makes the kids know how proud we are and helps build WBP dollars.
Don't forget those matching funds! Many companies will match donations - be sure to check and see if Dad in your tribe can get matching funds from their workplace.
Speaking of "matching funds" - For those of us that do not work for matching fund companies, here's a tip on how to generate more donation dollars for WBP: ask the grandparents! Tell the grandparents about WBP and explain to them how less fortunate children don't get the same perks as their grandkids. Tell them how your child is raising money for WBP through their hard earned wampum - see if hey'd be interested in "matching" what your child pledges. Oh, and have your kid do the talking - grandparents have a hard time telling the little ones "no."
