Spring Outing 2010 Information

We are excited about the upcoming Spring Outing, please check out the guidelines below to ensure your tribe has the best time possible.

• Spring Outing registration began on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 and runs through Friday, March 12, 2010. Any registrations received after the March 12, 2009 deadline will incur a $20 late fee per pair.

• The cost of Spring Outing is $119 per person, or $238 per pair.

All dues for everyone in your tribe attending Spring Outing must be paid before registering for Spring Outing, or your entire tribe’s registration will not be processed.

• We ask that one member of the tribe come to the Y Guides & Princesses Program Office to register everyone. To avoid any confusion, the tribe must pay in full and at the same time for everyone that is going on the trip. All tribes must also include a 2010 Spring Outing Registration Form.

• The best 2 methods of payment are for each member to write a separate check, instead of one check for the whole tribe or pay with a credit card (MC, Visa, Visa Debit, & AMEX) by writing the CC number, name on card, and expiration date on registration form.

• We are allowing 100 people to switch into each weekend except for the First Year Princesses weekend (April 16-18). Any tribe that wishes to switch from their assigned weekend must pay in full, and receive approval from the YMCA Guides and Princesses Program Staff. If you are potentially switching to a later weekend, please note that they may close out by the end of the first registration day. There will be a line at 7a.m.

.... April 16-April 18 weekend C is FULL - Call the office for information
.... April 23-25 Weekend D is full FOR SWITCHES
*
.... May 14-16 Weekend F is full FOR SWITCHES *

.... ....* * Normal registrations for both weekends are still open.

• There is the possibility that your assigned weekend may reach capacity, in that case you may switch to any other available weekend. To ensure your tribe is able to make your designated weekend, please register in a timely manner.

• We will not assign your tribes camp and cabin until the week of your scheduled trip. We’ll post your tribe name, camp location, and cabin at the Neuse Sports Shop in Kinston. With such a large group going to Camp Sea Gull and Camp Seafarer this year, we want to make sure that the numbers at camp are such that everyone gets to bunk with their tribe, and that the lines at the activities are as short as possible.

• There is the possibility that you may be assigned to a friendship cabin with another tribe.

2010 Spring Outing Refund Policy: The YMCA Guides and Princesses Program will refund the Spring Outing payment less a $25 processing fee, if registration for the 2010 Spring Outing is cancelled one week prior to the tribe’s scheduled weekend. Any refund requests after the one week deadline will incur a $25 processing fee plus the cost of food ($40 per person) for each participant. There will be no refunds for the 2010 Spring Outing if the registration is cancelled on the Friday of the assigned weekend or after the assigned weekend.

2010 Spring Outing Commonly Asked Questions

When should I arrive? Big Braves should arrive at camp AFTER 5 p.m. on Friday and before 8 p.m. to facilitate unpacking. We will have an orientation/ice cream social at 8:30 p.m. Friday evening (If you arrive after 10 p.m., please be courteous to the others around you by unpacking your cars in the morning.)

If I am on the Longbow Council, when do I arrive? All Longbow Council members may arrive at camp at 12:00 p.m. of their assigned weekend. We will have a Longbow Council lunch meeting at noon in the back dining hall of the Camp Sea Gull mess hall. Please report to Camp Sea Gull at noon even if your assigned camp is at Camp Seafarer.

How far is it to camp? It is approximately 150 miles from Raleigh to camp. Without a stop, it takes about three hours to drive from downtown Raleigh to camp. When and where can I get my cabin & camp assignment? We will have the camp and cabin assignments posted at the Neuse Sports Shop in Kinston on Friday afternoon. This is a great halfway stopping point. If you don’t take a pit stop there, assignments will be available when you check in.

Where should I park? After Big Braves unload cars, please move your vehicles to the designated parking area at camp. (Camp doesn’t look much like camp with cars all over it!)

What about the Campfire? The campfire will begin at approximately 8:15p.m. Saturday evening at Camp Sea Gull. Please wait for an announcement over the PA and the lighting of the torches before making your way to the campfire. Please keep flashlights off during campfire so there will be fewer distractions.

Do we need torches? No, not this year. We will not have the traditional torch walk from the basketball court and will be trying something more in line with this year's theme.

Should we bring our tribal gear? Your tribe should bring your Y-Guides and Princesses regalia to wear to dinner and the campfire on Saturday night. You should also bring any standards, tom-toms, or totem poles to display on your cabin porch. This is a great way to share ideas.

How could my family get in touch with us while we are there? In the event of an emergency, you can call Matt Strickland at (919) 413-4984, Meredith Stewart (919) 815-4766, or Andrew Crook at (919) 815-0026. The number at Camp Sea Gull is (252) 249-1111, and Camp Seafarer is (252) 249-1212.

Is there medical staff around? Both camps will have a nurse and/or a doctor available at their respective health centers.

What about our Friday and Saturday devotions? We recommend that each tribe have a devotional period at the end of the day. This is a great time of reflection and will help you end the day on a great note. We will assist you by providing devotion ideas in the cabins to assist you.

What should I make sure to bring? Bedding or sleeping bags (sheets, blankets – cabins are not winterized)*, pillow, toilet articles, flashlight, informal clothing, swim suit, sweater or light jacket for campfire, tennis shoes, snacks, drinks, and a flashlight. *Children sleeping on top bunks should use sheets and blankets instead of sleeping bags.

What else can I bring? You may choose to bring lawn chairs (not for the campfire), fishing equipment, bicycles, Frisbees, tennis equipment, board games, golf clubs/balls, and earplugs, etc.

What should I leave at home? We ask that you not bring firearms, boats, Mom, fireworks, recreational vehicles, pets, or alcoholic beverages.
