I have had the extreme privilege of taking my own two daughters through this program. My Native American name is "Big Hare" and my daughters are "Little Bunny" and "Fuzzy Bunny". I just returned from Camp Rockmont this past fall from our Trailblazer/Trailmate Weekend ( program that follows the Guides/Princess experience). Madison, my 9 year old, experienced white water rafting on the French Broad River through class 2,3, and 4 rapids with dear ole’ dad. What a thrill! We also went blobbing, ziplining, and sliding down the gulley-washer together. We held hands walking around trails and went on a hunt for the “golden arrows”. We sang songs at a campfire and roasted marshmallows with the stars looking down upon us. We built memories that will last a lifetime! One of the more endearing stories that has been passed down is the one of a father that wore his vest to his daughters wedding rehearsal dinner to let his “little girl” know what she had meant to him over the years. The constant through these stories and others is the "time spent together". It seems that in this busy world that we live in, the most precious commodity is time spent with loved ones. My oldest daughter, Mary Stuart, loves looking through her sharksteeth collection and showing her friends the various shapes and sizes. We sat one weekend at Camp Seafarer in the drizzle while the other dads were under shelter. She explained to me, "Dad, we have the whole pile to ourselves and the rain washes the teeth so we can see them easier, we are so lucky!". At the time I was not too excited, now it is clear how valuable that memory is to me! I attended the Central YMCA as a shy 7 year old, worked as a counselor at Camp Sea Gull and Seafarer for 5 years, served as assistant director at Camp Seafarer for 7 years, started the Johnston County YMCA, and now return as director of the Guides/Princess program. Thanks for taking this journey with me! Please join our staff, Matt Strickland ( "Running Moose") and Renee Holly ("Bright Sunflower"), for tons of fun and time well spent together. How-How! Sincerely, Bobby Harris "Big Hare"
